“My friends all over the country and the world have been calling me over this incident to confirm whether l was still alive. You can see that l am alive and kicking.”
The rector said he had already briefed his lawyers, demanding that they take legal action against the online newspapers.

This Beautiful Sick Female Corps Member Allegedly Died After Being Forced To Partake In Military Drills At Kano Camp

There are tributes to this young lady on social media, by people who claim to know her. The corps member allegedly passed away after she was forced to partake in some camp activities, even though she was sick.
A lady at the camp also states that the lady in question died due to negligence, because “they (officials) assumed she was pretending to be sick in order to dodge parade, so they refused to treat her until the situation got complicated.” The Nigeria Police and other appropriate authorities definitely need to get involved and investigate this.

Ahmadu Bello University Begins Construction Of N4bn 10MW Solar Plant

The minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, yesterday performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a 10MW solar power plant estimated to cost N4 billion naira at Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria.
The project, located at Biye Village, Sabongari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, is expected to be completed in six months and is meant to address the energy needs of the university.
It was designed, initiated and financed by ABU in collaboration with Nigeria-German Energy Partnership with assistance from Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
During the foundation laying ceremony, the minister commended the university for its foresight and urged it to sustain the tempo.
Mr. Adamu who was represented by Fatima Jidda-Ahmed, the Director, Tertiary Institutions in the Federal Ministry of Education expressed hope that the institution would take advantage of the partnership with Germany, not only in power generation, but in encouraging engineering students gain from the partnership.
In his speech, the German Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Regina Hess, said the partnership was based on the passion Germany had for university education in Nigeria.
She said universities would perform better if the education budget was used judiciously.
“With this project, our passion for Germany has become the passion for Nigerian government too,” she said.
Mrs. Hess promised to train engineers from the ABU to become experts in the field of solar energy.
Jeremy Gains, the Coordinator, Nigeria-German Energy Partnership, recalled that the project started in 2008 in Berlin when the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and his wife visited Germany.
“Both Yar’Adua and his wife were alumni of the university. He met Chancellor Martha and she asked how Germany can help Nigeria.
“The late president said wisely in just three words and those three words were; power, power, power, adding that electricity is the key to development,” he said.
Mr. Gains said another alumni of ABU who also facilitated the project was the late Rilwanu Lukman, when he was both minister and Secretary-General of Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.
“German company will come to Nigeria to create power stations while in return, Nigeria will guarantee energy security in the form of gas,” he noted.
Earlier, the ABU Vice-Chancellor, Ibrahim Garba, said ABU, the largest university, not only in Nigeria but in West Africa, had high demand for electricity.
He said the university spent about N85 million monthly on electricity, “that’s why we need our own power source to use and probably sell out to consumers out there.”

Caught!! Waec Bans Two Schools For Examination Malpractice (Full Story)

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has barred two secondary schools in Imo State from registering as an examination centre or presenting their students as candidates in any of its examinations for a period of 5 years.
Reports stated that The council also derecognized 28 schools for two years as a result examination malpractices.
The Head, Public Affairs of the council, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, who disclosed this on Thursday declined to name the affected schools, he said the schools are usually referred by their centre numbers and not by their names.
He added that WAEC officials were locked out for more than 30 minutes in the second school obviously for examination malpractice to perpetrate.
He noted that as for the derecognized schools, examinations will still hold in their schools but their teachers will not be used as invigilators.
He added that there are 28 of those schools across the country and they can still reapply after two years, stating that things have been put in place to prevent a recurrence of examination malpractice.

!! Update!! Ambrose Alli University school fees hike.. (VC must go)

The students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma
are calling on the state government for the urgent
remover of the school VC for trying to politicize the
students peaceful protest against the school fees
hiked by the management without putting the
students future into consideration.

The students have accused the Vice Chancellor for misinformingthe general public, tagging the protesters PDP supporters and anti-Godwin Obaseki which is nothing but false of the highest order by a man who was never recorded to pay school fees in his life-but paid by community and the then Bendel State government.

According to one of the students who pleaded that
name should be withheld, we love our governor,
we congratulates him on his victory and we are
ready to support his government therefore the students will not accept any politics to excuse cruelty by the vice chancellor and the school management.

All we want is reduction of exasperated school fees increment, we have nothing against our governor and the students will not give up their fight until the fees is humanly reduced he stressed.

Update from FOCUS

‘Please Call Off The Strike’- Atiku Begs ASUU

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to suspend its strike action and embrace negotiation with the government.
The university lecturers had on Wednesday commenced a one-week strike over failure by the Federal Government to implement the 2009 Agreement and 2013 Memorandum of Understanding.
Speaking during his 70th birthday celebration in Yola on Thursday, Atiku said his concern was about the children who would be out of school, while calling on the union to shelve the strike action.
He said,
“My call to ASUU is for the sake of the education of our children, I call on them to suspend their strike action and continue negotiations because I believe at the end of the day an amicable resolution of the issues in contention would be reached. The most important thing is to think of the children not going to school.”
The former Vice President also reiterated his position that if he had been the President of Nigeria, the Boko Haram insurgency, which had plagued the North Eastern part of the country, would not have existed, saying the absence of strong political will and courage in dealing with the uprising was to blame for the lingering situation.

Report on ITV session with Ambrose alli university AAU managemen....Protest

Report on ITV session with AAU management

The management of Ambrose Alli University were live on ITV this morning. Present in the media house was the school PRO and the new Dean.

The school PRO and the new Dean insisted that the protest of the students was uncalled for and also stated that alot of damages were sustained by the school.

They further said that soldiers who were present came on their own and no student was shot, the PRO continued that the soldiers were cautioning the students with Koboko. He surprisingly went further to say that the boy shot on the leg got a fracture while running and that he was not shot, meanwhile all responses from the new Dean showed he concurred to what the PRO had to say

It should be recalled that after the first peaceful protest which took place in Benin, the PRO in a call with ITV said that the persons who were protesting in Benin were not students of Ambrose Alli University, in his words "If you look at it very clearly, the protesting people do not even look like students.

The PRO kept on using the word "A group called NANS" during the interview section in order to make the NANS body look illegal to the general public but he admitted that it was a legal body when the interviewer cautioned him on the use of the words "A group", on admitting that it is a legal body recognized by the federal government, he alleged that the NANS president is acting without the support of the people he is presiding over.

The New Dean went on to say that since there is no SUG body now, a caretaker committee would be set up, the selection would be made from students across the 12 faculties of the school under the supervision of NANS in order to dialogue with the school management.

Meanwhile, the hospital where the student who was shot on the leg received treatment, has refused to release the report of the X-ray carried out on the leg and the students have vowed not to take it lightly with them.

Students of Ambrose Alli University are ready to go on Air, to speak with ITV in order to clear the allegations of the school.

In a chat with some of the students, they criticized the school management for deceiving the general public who were not at the scene of the protest, a 200Level student who pleaded anonymity said "How can a man with children and grey hair open his mouth to lie so badly without conscience? How can the PRO look at a student who was shot on the leg, and is currently using clutches to support his movement and say that he got a fracture while running?"

Meanwhile, there is an impromptu meeting between students with interest to the reduction of the fees and the meeting is slated for 4PM today at Idumebo, Oxford junction to be precise and anyone present in school as at now is required to be present.

See The 7 Nigerian Universities Built By Churches And Their Outrageous School Fees

In Nigeria, many churches are into the educational sector, so it is not strange to see churches build schools, either primary schools, secondary or even institutions of higher learning.
What is strange however is the fact that most of these institutions which turn out to be private universities, turn around and charge fees that are well out of the reach of the average Nigerian. So what then happens is that church members whose tithes and offerings went into the building of the universities will not be able in the long run to afford to send their children to those schools.
Here are some examples of such schools:
1. Bowen university

so sad!! Senate Fails To Stop ASUU, Strike Continues!

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, Senator Jibrin Barau, who addressed journalists, said the Senate could not stop the warning strike.
He, however, said its intervention would prevent the strike from transforming to an indefinite action.
Barau added that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, had been asked to attend a meeting of a committee comprising officials of ASUU and the ministries of education and labour on Thursday.
The meeting on Wednesday was also attended by the officials of the Ministry of Education as well as representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was absent at the meeting, was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka.
Barau said the lawmakers had a “fruitful deliberation” with the striking lecturers, adding that “a way forward has been found” and that “the issues will soon be resolved.”
He admitted that the warning strike would continue while the Senate worked towards preventing the lecturers from embarking on a total strike.
The senator announced that a sub-committee, made up of representatives of all the stakeholders had been set up while the panel would continue with the roundtable discussions on Thursday.
He said what the Senate had done was to create a template for dialogue, describing an end to the crisis as “a work in progress.”
Barau said,
“We have had a fruitful deliberation and a way forward has been found by creating a sub-committee of this committee to sit and find out certain things in the Ministry of Finance, which will bring us closer to the resolution of this problem.
“We will start sitting tomorrow (Thursday), including the Minister of Finance (Kemi Adeosun), who has not been able to attend this meeting but we are sure she will be here tomorrow and the Director-General of the Budget Office.
“We have created a template on how to resolve this problem. And you know ASUU is a democratic body, they have to consult. So, it’s ongoing; it’s a work in progress and a very important headway has been created. A good template has been created and we see light at the end of the tunnel.”
The National President of ASUU, Abiodun Ogunyemi, who earlier declined to speak on the outcome of the meeting, later thanked the Senate for its intervention.
He said,
“We have discussed and our union will work with him (Saraki). We will do all possible, with the approval of our membership, to get the matter resolved as soon as possible.”

One of the aggrieved student (name withheld) In a chat with our correspondent asserted that “this is just the beginning of their victory” she further urged her fellow students not to relent as this fight which has so far yielded positive results must be won.

No Going Back On Warning Strike – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities says there is no going back on its one-week warning strike scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, the union’s National President, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone on Tuesday in Lagos that the strike would be total.

NAN reports that the union leadership, after its emergency executive committee meeting, declared the warning strike at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.

Ogunyemi said chronic under-funding of the sector through low budgetary allocation, which went from 11 per cent in 2015 to eight per cent in 2016, did not go down well with the union.

He pointed out the failure of government to implement the 2009 agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as some of the reasons for embarking on the warning strike.

The president said that its members were tired of what they described as “government’s empty promises’’ in setting up its negotiation team for the review of agreement as consistently requested by ASUU since 2012.

“There shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of our branches while the strike lasts.’’

According to him, the union will put machinery in place to ensure that there is total compliance during the strike.

He explained that the essence of the warning strike was to draw attention of concern stakeholders and the general public to the challenges that the unions, universities and other stakeholders in the sector were facing.

“Nobody will say before we exhaust the warning strike some issues cannot be addressed if government want to be sincere with our cause.

“We are doing this because we want Nigerians to come into the matter and ensure that these issues are given adequate attention they deserve.

“Our lecturers are given 40 per cent of their salaries, which is just not encouraging, as this will lead to poor commitment in carrying out their jobs.

“I am sure nobody will like a 40 per cent university education or 40 per cent teaching of various courses including research development and output.

“That is why we have to take the matter before the National Assembly, which we believe, will come into the matter just like the Nigerian parents.’’

Already, the Sokoto State chapter of ASUU has said it will embark on the one-week warning strike from Wednesday.

This was made known by ASUU Chairman in the state, Dr Attahiru Sifawa, during a news conference in Sokoto on Tuesday.

Sifawa said the strike would begin on Wednesday, Nov.16, at 12:01a.m.

“This will include a total and comprehensive shut down of academic activities, up to 12:00 noon on Tuesday Nov. 22.

“Therefore, ASUU, Sokoto State University, Sokoto branch, wishes to declare its absolute solidarity with the national body of the union, in embarking on the one week warning strike.’’

Sufawa further said that the action was necessitated by the failure of government to either implement the 2009 agreement, or form its team for renegotiation of the agreement.

He added that ASUU found it necessary to embark on the warning strike, to prevail on federal and state governments to be alive to their responsibilities.

Sufawa also said the union was concerned about the frightening fall in budgetary allocation to education sector, from 12 per cent in 2014 to this year’s meagre eight per cent.

According to him, the union also condemns the continued erosion of the autonomy of Nigerian universities by both the federal and state governments.

Sifawa cited the example of the recent scrapping of Post-UTME by the Federal Ministry of Education, as well as the amendment of JAMB Bill by the National Assembly.

Reacting to the impending strike, the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), said that ASUU was right and that it must be supported.

Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo, the association’s 2nd Deputy National President, told NAN that it was time the government take the country’s education seriously, especially in the face of the technology age.

“ASUU has done well by giving warning, considering the patience its members have shown in these whole issues.

“At least it is good for them to feel the pulse of Nigerians and other key stakeholders on the matter.

“However, because Nigeria is struggling with recession presently, we, on behalf of Nigerian parents are begging them not to down tool totally.

“They have made their points and we thank them for creating the awareness but we are begging them to shelve the looming strike to sometimes next year, when the recession might have been abated.

“Government too should seize the opportunity to listen to the union and see what can be done concerning all the issues it has raised.

“It will be a total disaster if government should allow ASUU to down tool indefinitely, considering the hardship that is currently taking its toll on every sector of the nation’s economy.’’

Ogunbanjo said that a full-fledged strike would not be welcomed by majority of Nigerians in the current situation.

He said the strike would only add more grief to the suffering masses. (NAN)

What do you understand By the word ALUTA?

The correct wording of the phrase is actually "A luta continua, vitória é certa" meaning, "The struggle continues, victory is certain". However, it has been corrupted over the years and is more likely to be written: "Aluta Continua, Victoria Acerta".

The word “ALUTA” in the real sense classically means “STRUGGLE”; the word is widely associated with a STRUGGLE for Freedom or LIBERATION of people from any form of Oppression, Repression or Subjugation.
